We’re currently on track to reduce our plastic packaging by 50% by the end of 2019! Most of the packaging we use in our recipe boxes is also fully recyclable or biodegradable.
How do I recycle my box:
All our cardboard is fully recyclable and comes from FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council™) certified sustainable sources, in a socially, environmentally and economically sound way.
You can flatten and recycle it in your household recycling.
How do I recycle the plastic pots in my Gousto box?
The plastic pots we use are widely recyclable across the UK. Simply rinse them out and pop them in with the rest of your household recycling.
How do I recycle the tins and cans in my Gousto box?
These are widely recyclable across the UK. Simply rinse them out and pop them in with the rest of your household recycling.
What do I do with my Gousto ice packs?
Unlike other ice packs that may contain gels, ours contain nothing but 100% water, so you can simply melt, empty and recycle the bag.
Tip: Instead of pouring the melted ice away, why not water your plants with it?
Can I recycle the plastic bags and films?
We’re in the process of updating our plastic packaging to clearly show on-pack recycling guidance.
Most of the plastic packaging in our boxes (like those used to package pasta and noodles) are made of simple plastic. This means you can recycle them at local supermarkets that have plastic bag collection points, or in your local kerbside recycling (where accepted).
Small sauce or paste sachets are not yet recyclable in the UK as they have more complex layers of different plastics to hold liquids and prevent leakage. A standard recycling process hasn’t been developed for them - yet – but we’re working closely with our suppliers to find alternatives.
How are we working to improve our packaging?
We have a dedicated sustainability team who are working hard to find more sustainable options that will reduce or replace the plastics we use, and we’re working with all our suppliers to do the same. The team have identified some immediate improvements on our packaging, and you’ll notice some exciting changes over the next few months. These include reducing the quantity of packaging and replacing some plastics with better alternatives. We’ll also be improving recycling education on the packaging itself so you can be confident that you’re disposing of it in the best way.
We’re doing everything we can to find sustainable packaging solutions to fully replace plastics, and that will still work with the UK recycling schemes, but this will take time. We’ve identified some immediate changes that you will see in the Gousto boxes in the coming months and as more solutions are developed, we’ll find better ways of doing things – and let you know when they happen!
Unfortunately, because we use external courier partners, we can't currently take back old packaging.
